GET OUT AND SHOOT!

I think I’ve always had a propensity for street photography.  I love to witness the dynamics that occur between people.  Or maybe it’s the expressive look on someone’s face that transports them to another world as they’re in deep thought about something that has garnered their attention.  Or maybe it’s that fleeting moment of time that passes by someone.  Whatever it is, I find capturing street scenes intriguing and fun. And it’s a talent that takes patience and perseverance.  In the beginning, it was a little nerve racking.  Getting up close into other people’s business or their perceived private space was not easy for me.  And it still isn’t! So, I practice to not be intrusive, to blend in, and to not exploit the situation.  Surprisingly, there are many people who absolutely love having their pic taken. Even though I strive for the candid shot, I sometimes get “busted”.  And there are those who loathe having their pic taken. Those who are turned off will let you know in various ways. Some ways are subtle.  Some are not so subtle.  For those who loathe it, I continue to smile and move on.  Here’s my best advice to anyone getting started with street photography – get out and shoot! Just get out there and do it. It may not get any easier over time, but I guarantee it will become less painful.  The results you capture will pleasantly surprise you, I’m absolutely sure.
